I’m a hospital chaplain, poet, meditation facilitator, and embodied play facilitator. In these roles (and really just as a human) I draw on my background, especially my decade-plus of dedicated Buddhist practice and my upbringing in an orthodox Jewish family and community. Originally from New Jersey, I live in Massachusetts.

Poetry

I write poems that explore embodiment, memory, and religion/spirituality, and which incorporate both irreverence and vulnerability. Poems of mine have appeared in Gulf Coast, Redivider, The Christian Century, poetry.onl, and elsewhere. I am a Best of the Net nominee, a runner-up for the MoonLit Getaway Poetry Contest, a finalist for the Lucky Jefferson Poetry Prize, and an honorable mention for the Northwind Writing Award. I have poems in the anthologies Ache: The Body’s Experience of Religion (Flipped Mitten Press, 2024) and Northwind Treasury (Raw Earth Ink, 2024). My debut chapbook I wake up tangled in pillows and sheets was the winner of the Slice Poetry Chapbook Contest (Fork Apple Press, 2025) and a finalist for the Frontier Poetry Debut Chapbook Contest (2024).

Chaplaincy

I work as an interfaith hospital chaplain in Boston. I specialize in providing spiritual care and counseling to oncology patients and their loved ones. And I particularly devote my time to supporting ordinary people as they grapple with grief, suffering, loss, and death. I am board-certified by the Association of Professional Chaplains and am certified in Compassionate Bereavement Care. When I was a student at Harvard Divinity School, I was part of a research team that studied and wrote about Buddhist chaplains. I am currently working on a chaplaincy case study for academic journal publication.

Dharma

I am trained by Narayan Liebenson (founding teacher of Cambridge Insight Meditation Center) to teach basic meditation practices in community settings. I regularly lead the 35 & Under Sangha (community) at CIMC. I also have studied the Buddhist language Pali, and I translated the Metta Sutta. Before I became a chaplain, I was a Retreat Support Fellow at the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA, and before that I was a teaching assistant for the Antioch University/Carleton College Buddhist Studies program in Bodh Gaya, India.

Play

I am a certified leader of the body wisdom modality InterPlay. My masters thesis explored connections between Buddhist texts and play/playfulness. I also contributed a book chapter titled “A Playful Dharma: Connecting to Our Bodies, Connecting to One Another” in Refuge in the Storm: Buddhist Voices in Crisis Care (North Atlantic Books, 2023). An earlier version of that essay was an HDS blog post and I presented on it in an HDS webinar.
